Official Slams US' Cyber War Against Iran

Proposed Cyber War Against Iran Would be Futile

January 22, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian Parliament Speaker condemned US’ allocation of a budget for conducting a cyberspace campaign against Iran and Iranian people over the Internet, at the inaugural ceremony for a series of telecommunications projects in the holy city of Qom, as reported by IRNA.

Ali Larijani said such actions namely to propagate negative publicities against Iran only strengthen the will of Iranian people. Last Wednesday US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced her government’s plan to swiftly spend a $45 million budget to fight off Internet restrictions in other countries like Iran.

Earlier, Clinton criticized China’s heavy restrictions over the Internet and promised to encourage US individuals and companies to spread democratic values over the Internet. The US company Google also blamed Chinese Internet rules as the biggest obstacle for doing business in that country.

Larijani explained that even if US had allocated $45 billion instead of the proposed sum, it could never succeed in fulfilling desired goals against Iran. The US considers freedom of expression over the Internet tantamount to Western democratic values and tries hard to spread its own unique interpretation of freedom through cyberspace.
